AUGUST 2015
Following the recent judging of the PAGB Inter Federation Competition, two of our photographers - Richard Tickner and David Howse have had an image each accepted to appear in the Sony PAGB National Photographic Exhibition which was held in Kent in July and August. Richard's image was Anna's Bedroom and David's Squabbling White Tailed Sea Eagles.
JULY 2015
With much sadness we learned that our friend and fellow club member, Val Miles, died on Friday 24th July after a long illness. She was an active member of our club for many years and will be greatly missed.
Many congratulations to Pauline Taylor who has succeeded in getting her Licentiateship of the Royal Photographic Society - a great achievement. Her panel is in the RPS gallery.
JUNE 2015
Battle Photographic Society's Chairman, Richard Tickner, has been granted his Fellowship of the Royal Photographic Society. We are incredibly proud of Richard's success! As a way of understanding his exceptional achievement, there are only 841 members of the RPS who are Fellows. To view Richard's successful Fellowship panel, click here.
Congratulations to David Howse who recently obtained his CPAGB (Certificate of the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain). The images he used are shown in the slideshow opposite and in the PAGB Gallery.
MAY 2015
Congratulations to Ann Chown who gained her BPE2 - 50 images accepted in British Photographic Exhibitions.
Battle PS had some success in the KCPA Annual Exhibition : David Howse had six acceptances, including a PAGB Ribbon for Small Flock of Dalmation Pelicans, and two Merit Awards for Affection and Feeding Frenzy. Richard Tickner had nine acceptances, including PAGB Ribbons for Felicia and for Anna's Bedroom. The following club members had acceptances: John Shipp (one), Ann Chown (two) and Annette Denny with two. Congratulations to everybody, with a special mention to Annette Denny for her first acceptances into a KCPA Exhibition.

APRIL 2015
A good afternoon for Battle Photographic Society on Saturday 11th April at the Sussex Photographic Federation's Annual Print Competition; Richard Tickner won the Best Print of the Day Trophy for Anna's Bedroom, which also won the Gold Medal in the Open Section. The Silver Medal in the Open Section was won by David Howse for Small Flock of Dalmation Pelicans. The Gold Medal in the Development Section was won by Pauline Taylor with Entrance - and a Judge's Medal in the Development Section for Kathy Kiley for Budding Stage of an Amaryllis. Battle PS came third in the Development Class and joint second in the Open Class and third overall. Congratulations to all our trophy and medal winning members! MARCH/APRIL 2015
The Battle 'Then' and 'Now' Exhibition of photographs, organised by the Battle Photographic Society, in close cooperation with the Battle and District Historical Society and the Battle Museum of Local history, was held from 21st March - 18th April 2015. It was opened by Margaret Kiloh, Mayor Of Battle, in Battle Library (click here for picture). Many members of both Societies were present at the opening. The photographic exhibition was supplemented with a display of drawings of old Battle buildings made by Year 2 children at Battle and Langton Primary School.
MARCH 2015
In addition to his recent successes in Serbia, our Chairman, Richard Tickner ARPS EFIAP BPE3, won another Gold Medal - the UPI Gold - for Rocking Rosa at the Freedom Circuit, Bangladesh.
Richard won the following medals in the 4th Exhibition of Photography, Paracin, Serbia:
- Gold Medal for Felicia in the Portrait Section;
- Gold Medal for Nina in the Child Section
- Highly Commended for Sifnos (after HC-B) in the Child Section
He also received a Commendation for Anna's Bedroom at the Basingstoke Camera Club National Open Photography Exhibition 2015.
FEBRUARY 2015
Congratulations to Richard Tickner who won a Judge's Medal at the Bristol FIAP Exhibition for Anna's Bedroom which scored a maximum 15. There were 2284 entries from 67 countries.
Congratulations to Ann Chown for winning 1st place with 'Cloudburst' in 'The World Around Us' category in the St Michael's Hospice Capture the Moment competition. She also came 3rd with 'San Mother' in the 'Love and Care' category. Congratulations also to Richard Tickner who came 3rd with 'Domino Champion' in 'The World Around Us Category'. DECEMBER 2014
The Sussex Photographic Federation held its Annual PDI competition on Saturday 6th December. SxPF has changed the format for the competition and now has two classes: Development and Open. Battle PS did very well in coming 4th out of 19 clubs entered with 171 points. Steyning Camera Club won the competition with 185 points. We had two successes: in the Development class Lindsay Shipp won a bronze medal for "Afternoon Siesta" and in the Open class David Howse won bronze for "Osprey through the Mist". Many congratulations to Lindsay and David! The images entered can be seen in the SxPF gallery which also gives the individual scores. NOVEMBER 2014
The Ross Cup 2014 was held on Saturday 22nd November and judged by Marcus Scott-Taggart. 38 clubs entered the competition and Battle came a creditable joint 14th (with Invicta and Whitstable) with a score of 135. Aperture Woolwich won the competition with a score of 148 with Sevenoaks coming second with 147. The images used by Battle can be seen in The Ross Cup 2014 gallery where the individual scores can also be seen. The judge was glowing in his praise of David Howse's image, Catch of the Day, which scored the maximum 20 points. For the full results, see the KCPA website or Parkwood Camera Club website.
Ann Chown has achieved her BPE1. In addition, she had nine acceptances including Honours for "Stampede" at the Guernsey Salon of Photography 2014. Stampede can be viewed in the British Photographic Exhibitions gallery.
SEPTEMBER 2014
Many congratulations to Lynn Findley who was awarded her LRPS (Licentiateship of the Royal Photograhic Society) on 21st September 2014! Very well done and well deserved Lynn! Her successful panel can be found by clicking here.
We were asked by St Michael's Hospice, St Leonard's, to take pictures at their Vintage Fair on Saturday 20th September. The hospice hopes to use a selection of these pictures for promotion and marketing. They can be found on the St Michael's Hospice's Flickr site.
JUNE 2014
Many congratulations to Michael Betts who was presented on the occasion of his retirement from the KCPA with a KCPA Distinguished Service Award by Alan Lomokin (President, KCPA) on Saturday 28th June 2014 at the KCPA AGM. Michael was on the KCPA Executive Committee for 20 years, during which time he was also the KCPA representative at the PAGB. Michael has been a member of Battle Photographic Society/Camera Club for the last 30 years, during which time he has been Chairman twice, Vice Chairman, Programme Secretary and is still serving as a Committee Member.

Congratulations to Ann who was awarded a Highly Commended for Jam in the Robin Hood Open Exhibition 2014.
The Kent County Photographic Association Annual Print and PDI Exhibition 2014 opened on Friday 9th May in Tonbridge. Members of Battle Photographic Society did particularly well with the following results (see the gallery page for our successful images):

Two PAGB Ribbons for Life's a Puzzle in the Mono PDI section and Female Leopard in the Nature PDI.
Highly Commended for Reflected Reeds in the Mono Print Section.
Ann also had four acceptances: Hyacinth in the Colour Print section, Thoughtful in the Portrait Print section, Feeding Frenzy in the Nature PDI section and Zambian Boy in the Portrait PDI section.
David Howse
Three Highly Commended for Catch of the Day and Osprey in the Nature Print section and Successful Catch in the Nature PDI section.
David also had two prints accepted: Longtailed Starling chasing Grasshopper in the Nature section and Gambian Boy in the Portrait section.

Terence had one print accepted: Mark in the Portrait section.

John had one PDI accepted in the Record section: Gilded Altar Detail at Salisbury Cathedral.

Six Highly Commended in the Colour Print section for Salsa, Santerian Temple, Trinidad, and The Red Bicycle, in the Mono Print section Sifnos Church, and in the Portrait Print section for Domino Champion and Nina.
Richard also had three accepted prints: Sifnos (After HCB) in the Mono section, Hernando and Ossie in the Portrait section.
MARCH 2014
Richard Tickner's panel for his ARPS has been used as an example by the Royal Photographic Society over the past year and most recently at The Photographic Show at the NEC in Birmingham in March 2014. Richard is shown in this image with Andy Moore, Distinctions Manager of the RPS, standing in front of is panel.
The Sussex Photographic Federation Annual Print Competition was held at Burgess Hill with 19 clubs participating. Battle CC came joint 2nd (with Eastbourne PS) with 87 points. Rye CC were the winners with 96. The images used in the competiion can be seen here. The competition was judged by Chris Neill-Griffin MA from the Southern Counties Photographic Federation.
